Yasmin Akhter, the proud winner of Mrs. Tourism 2024 Queen Ambassador for Education and recipient of the Mrs. Tourism 2024 Photogenic award, hails from the small village of Narda, in Cuttack district, Odisha. She completed her 10th at Shishu Niketan, a Hindi medium school in Jharkhand, and went on to study at Holy Cross School for her 12th. She pursued higher education at Ravenshaw University, Odisha, earning both a degree in Computer Science and an MBA. Yasmin attributes her success to the Almighty, her parents, siblings, and a few supportive friends, who have always stood by her side.
She especially acknowledges her husband, Vishal Ahmad, who has played a pivotal role in supporting her from the time she began her MBA to this very day. Yasmin emphasizes that her journey would not have been possible without his constant encouragement and belief in her.
Despite facing challenges like being trolled and bullied, Yasmin transformed these hardships into strengths, becoming a better person with time. She firmly believes that to grow in life, one must remain humble and express gratitude, as success is not achieved alone. Yasmin fondly remembers her first step into the fashion industry through the platform Bazar by Nahid Khan, where she found her first mentor, Nahid Khan. In the acting realm, Ayesha Zaki gave her unwavering support, allowing Yasmin to take on the role of a mother in the social awareness movie, Meri Mom ke Woh Din. Coming from a conservative family, it wasn’t easy for Yasmin to pursue her dreams, but with the constant backing of her sisters, Nazneen Akhter and Pervin Akhter, and her sister-in-law, Jahan Ara Begum, she pushed forward. Yasmin also credits her brother for sharing the responsibility of her education and marriage, a gesture that was made possible with the support of her sister-in-law.
For Yasmin, success means not only walking forward alone but lifting others alongside her.
Regarding her recent pageant journey at the Mrs. Tourism Beauty Pageant, organized by Ovette Ricalde and supported by Shakira, Yasmin had a transformative experience. She arrived in Bangkok, Thailand, on the 26th of September, with the finale taking place on October 2nd at the Amanata Lanta Resort. This pageant holds a special significance, as Ovette dedicated it to her mother on her birthday, an annual tradition. A major supporter of the event, Shakira, an influential businesswoman in Thailand, played a key role in promoting the event and supporting tourism in the country.
Yasmin is proud to have been crowned Mrs. Tourism 2024 Queen Ambassador for Education and to have received the special award of Mrs. Tourism Photogenic 2024.
She describes the experience as intense and rewarding. The training included 16-hour days, starting at 5 AM. After preparing and having breakfast, the contestants would engage in photo sessions for the sponsors. Over the span of seven days, they moved between three different hotels, all sponsored for the event. The main sponsor, Amanata Lanta Resort, provided luxurious five-star accommodations, and additional stays were sponsored by the Novotel Rayong Star Convention Centre and The Aiyara.
The contestants dined at prestigious five-star restaurants, including Koh Lanta Restaurant Suvarnabhumi, Hoi-Kha Noodle Ayutthaya, and SUPHATTRALAND. They enjoyed a Southern Thai lunch at Khuawsator and visited a variety of tourist attractions, including the Queen Sirikit Museum, natural landscapes, Regen Smart City Rayong, and the innovative PTT LNG Rayong. Yasmin was especially struck by the warm hospitality and kindness of the Thai people, whose humility and compassion made a lasting impression.
This incredible journey has left Yasmin deeply thankful for the experience and the opportunity to connect with so many talented women from around the world.
